Plan this outing

Best for
Comparing four riverside hotels before choosing a location and room.
Time to allow
Compare transport and rate terms before booking; this guide is not a room inspection.
Budget approach
Use the total stay price, including taxes, service charges and extras, not just the headline nightly rate.

Time allowances and budget methods are Sidestreet planning suggestions, not fixed schedules or guaranteed prices. This is a research-based guide; check venue and transport notices before travel.

A riverside hotel comparison should begin with the trip you are planning. Ask whether you want time at the hotel, frequent sightseeing transfers or a particular dining experience. Those needs can matter more than the building’s age or a place in a hotel ranking.

Use these four listings as starting points for enquiries. Compare the actual room and rate offered for your dates, including cancellation terms and any services you expect to use. A photograph of one room or a general hotel description does not establish the features of every booking.

For a stay on the Thonburi riverside, ask about the specific room category and current crossing arrangements. Include transfers in the stay comparison.

The Siam

Consider whether the location and the pace of the property fit your intended outings.

Consider the Dusit location and the hotel time you expect to spend. Compare the room offer and any transfer service directly with the property.

Read the inclusions for your actual offer before using the hotel’s reputation as the deciding factor.

A riverside stay option whose inclusions depend on the actual offer. Check the room category, outlook and services rather than generalising from one photograph.

Choosing an area

Map your planned visits before choosing a district. Riverside stays can suit river-based outings, while proximity to a useful BTS or MRT station can simplify other journeys. The Old Town has MRT access in some areas; check your actual hotel-to-station walk.

Our suggestion is to choose one base for a short stay unless moving hotels solves a clear transport problem. A split stay adds packing, checkout and transfer time.

Visiting without staying

Some hotel restaurants and bars accept non-resident reservations. Confirm access, dress requirements, pricing and boat arrangements directly; a booking for a meal does not include use of guest facilities.

When to book

Compare your actual travel dates. Festivals, weekends, room categories and cancellation terms can change prices; no seasonal saving or river-view upgrade is guaranteed.

Compare one identical set of dates

Put the same dates, guest count and room category into each hotel’s own booking page. Check whether breakfast, taxes, service charges, an extra bed and transfers are included. A refundable rate can be more useful than a lower price if your trip is still uncertain.

Record the cancellation deadline in the hotel’s stated time zone. Check deposit and no-show terms before payment. The hotels’ official pages are the place to verify current facilities and offers; descriptions here are research, not an inspection of a particular room.

Test the location against your trip

Map your first morning’s destination and your likely evening return. Compare a riverside hotel with a hotel near the rail line you will actually use. A boat service can be helpful, but ask the hotel about operating hours, boarding points and eligibility before relying on it.

For a restaurant or afternoon-tea visit, book directly and ask about dress requirements, minimum spend and access for non-residents. Do not assume every hotel shuttle or facility is available to anyone arriving for a drink.

Send the same enquiry to each hotel

For a useful comparison, ask every hotel about the same dates, group and room requirements. Record what the quoted rate includes, whether breakfast is separate and the cancellation deadline. A higher headline price may describe a different product rather than a directly comparable room.

If a shuttle or boat matters to your plans, ask for the current timetable, eligibility and landing point. Check whether that service works for your proposed evening return. Do not build the itinerary around a transfer that is mentioned only in an older review.

Good to know

  • Check whether the rate includes the 10 per cent service charge and 7 per cent tax.
  • Riverside hotels look close together on a map but can be a long taxi ride apart. Use the boats.
  • Ask for a high floor on the river side. Lower rooms can be noisy from boat traffic.
  • Smart dress is expected in hotel restaurants in the evening.

Common questions

How many nights do I need in Bangkok?

Three or four nights is a good first visit. That gives a day for the temples, a day for markets and neighbourhoods, and time for a day trip or simply for eating.

Which area is best for first-timers?

The riverside if sightseeing is your priority, or Sukhumvit near a BTS station if you want restaurants and nightlife on your doorstep.

How do I get from the airport?

Compare the current rail route or a licensed airport taxi with the final hotel transfer included. Check operating hours, luggage requirements, any surcharge and toll arrangements.

Should I tip at hotels?

Read the bill for included charges. Any additional tip is your choice; do not assume a service charge is included in every quoted rate.
